Karen's Story

How do I feel when a patient walks into the room for a mammogram? With some patients I am not aware of feeling anything. With others, those in particular who are feeling fear, I feel almost superior. After all I have already been there. I have had breast cancer and I have had the radical treatment of a mastectomy. I now know what I will do in order to survive. I even have a new mound.

Then there are the patients with whom I choose to share my experience. Frankly, I am surprised at how many women want to see my reconstructed breast. - Karen
